The invisible homesteader, spring is now summer, almost time for final crops in the ground

Hey everyone, we’ll it’s been a few weeks since I’ve updated the blog for our activities on the urban homestead. I was sick for a week and a half at the end of June with some kind of crazy summer cold (stuffed up head and coughing up flem…yuk). Since I haven’t put up a blog post in so long people might have thought I’d become…The Invisible Homesteader!! 🙂

Spring is now Summer
With the transition from spring to summer it’s been heads-down getting everything planted that was started inside our indoor grow tents. The only thing left inside the big tent are a few marigolds that we need to find space for (probably along the edge of our stair step garden beds. The weather has been getting progressively hotter and hotter, so the squash are banging! Paula and I have been eating at least 8-10 squash a week (either saute’d or made into zoodles. Zoodles are zucchini noodles made with a spiral slicer. And the way the Paula cooks them is fabulous!

Final crop seeds being planted in outdoor trays
We’ve seeded out last plants for outdoor garden succession plantings. Right now we’ve got cabbage, string beans, and broccoli in seed trays out sitting around the fire pit. We can’t really use the firepit at the moment since it’s been so hot and there are outdoor fire warnings…just don’t want to risk having an amber float out and land in a neighbors dry gutters or landscaping. Better to be safe than sued. 🙂

Youtube Video Channel
Even though I’ve been a little absent from the blog lately with all the outdoor urban homestead projects the videos on our Youtube channel haven’t stopped. We try and get at least 4-5 videos for new content out a week; if I didn’t have an 1-1.5hr commute each way to work I think I’d be able to get more interesting content up. But I’m not complaining and very thankful to have a job that’s afforded such a wonderful life. Just in case you’re new and would like to checkout some of our 340+ videos of our urban homestead life (including indoor grow tents for veggies year round) here’s a link: PnB Homesteading Youtube Channel

That’s a wrap!
Ok everyone, time to wrap things up and get this post put to bed. We’re having a Sunday BBQ with our kids and some of Paula’s visiting family from California. Have a productive week in the garden y’all. 🙂
