Hey Hey! It’s Paula and Brian back again for the weekly update of our little urban homestead. Paula has been harvesting Blueberries and Blackberries from the backyard quite a few times this week and with the tomatoes coming into full production she’s been a busy little trooper (I’ve been helping where I can after getting home from work 🙂 ). Also of note: our Youtube channel has crossed over the 100 video threshold…yay! At this rate we should be able to get at least 300 videos by the end of the year. This is more than just a video series to try and derive some passive income, it’s our way of documenting for our possible future grandchildren (and great grandchildren) a way to get to know us even if we’re not present to help teach them about gardening or homesteading.
So lets get to the details and some photos:
- Harvesting blueberries and blackberries
- Harvesting tomatoes, tomatillos, beans and dehydrating tomatoes
- Updates to indoor grow tents
- Watching the 100 year solar eclipse
Harvesting blueberries and blackberries
Paula was busy with more berry pickin this weekend. This is part of the delicious on-going battles she wages each summer at this time of year. 🙂
Here’s some pictures Paula took of our thornless blackberry bushes and the harvest:
Harvesting tomatoes, tomatillos, beans, and dehydrating tomatoes
Another of Paula’s bi-weekly harvest items are the tomatoes, tomatillos, and beans. These end up in our weekly meals along with canned or dehydrated stored goods. Here’s a few pictures of one days harvest and items heading into the dehydrator:
Updates to indoor grow tents
This weekend Brian did some updates to the indoor grow tents, from adding some elevation blocks/boards to lift up the seed starting trays in the mid-size tent to adding greenhouse plastic over the LED salad bar table to help retain more heat as we enter into fall. These modifications should help with overall yields and faster progression of the micro greens into harvestable sizes.
Watching the 100 year solar eclipse
Here’s a shot of Brian and our son watching the solar eclipse from the lower back deck:
Instead of listing all the videos here we’ll just point you to the channel so you can pick and choose from the new ones for this week (there were 8 new videos and listing here might put getting this post out we’ll past midnight…have to get some sleep for work ;), here’s the link to our channel: Paula-n-Brian’s Homesteading
Well everyone this we’ve come to the end of another blog post, albiet this one is getting out a little late for the week (we’re already at the start of the labor day weekend on friday evening). Both Paula and I hope you have a safe and happy Labor Day! 🙂
Talk to all of you soon.
