Mother Earth News Fair 2017 Albany Oregon, seeding new grow tent, and video updates

Hi Everyone, Paula and I had a great time at the motherearthnews fair down in Albany Oregon this past weekend. It wasn’t as big an event as last year (read below for more details), but it was still a great event. We saw lots of presentations from people out on their homesteads & farms doing things or what I love to say as “getting s%&t done!”. These kinds of events are always so inspiring to Paula and myself. Without further adieu here’s what we got done on our limited homestead task weekend…sometimes we need a break to learn and relax. ๐Ÿ™‚

Mother Earth News Fair 2017 Albany Oregon
This was the weekend where Paula and I get to get away from the homestead to learn the latest ideas, innovations, and like minded people in the homestead movement! This years event did seem to lack a number of vendors that were present last year. Both Paula and I were kind of disappointed on this front, but the quality of the presenters was pretty great. Our favorites were the vegetable ferments talk, the husband and wife team did a great job making this information easily digestible. The one talk that had the biggest impact was on homestead goats, the woman giving the talk has been a breeder for years and what she gave for pros vs. cons solidified our decision to not have goats…holy cow…there’s a lot of things that can go wrong with raising goats! Also, that most vets stay away from treading them which was key to our decision. The talk about heritage pigs gave us the opposite mindset change…we want pigs! The little black guinea hogs would be a great size for us to start with on the homestead/farm (when we get it) along with our egg/meat chickens. We can’t wait until next years event, here’s a quick video from Paula showing all the utensils made with natural and recycled materials that we picked up for around 20 bucks!:

We’ll it was a busy weekend with the fair and then getting the new medium size grow tent setup with the first sprouting trays (and of course getting the videos filmed, processed, and uploaded to Youtube). Have a great week everyone and we’ll be back next weekend with another addition of the PnB Homestead show! ๐Ÿ™‚
