Fixing farm truck and moving daughter to new apartment

Hey everyone, this weekend was really busy and didn’t allow too much dirt-time for us on the urban homestead. Let’s get going with our to-do list:

  • Replacing the trackbar balljoint and bushing on farm truck
  • Moving our daughter to her new apartment
  • Harvesting more strawberries (and pugs getting their share)
  • Paula made more Kombucha and Kefir
  • Paula’s early B-day gift is on its way…
  • Video: Quick backyard walk around homestead
  • Video: Tomato potting soil bag update week 7
  • Backyard photos

Replacing the trackbar balljoint and bushing on farm truck
I spent Saturday out on my back under our Ford 4×4 replacing the trackbar balljoint and the bar bushing. Getting the trackbar off was no problem (picklefork on my air chisel and brrrrt brrrrt! it was off)…the fun comes when having to get out the balljoint press to get out the old balljoint…weee those are a blast out on your back in a driveway trying to wedge that tool in and get leverage to press out (and back in) the balljoint. Pressing out and back in the new bushing for the other end was painless compared to the balljoint. But with it done I’ve got another 100k miles until it needs to be replaced again. 🙂

Moving daughter to her new apartment
When you get settled into your home as parents you forget just how much “stuff” your kids can accumulate. With the move of our daughter from her old apartment to her new apartment with her boyfriend Paula and I got to see first hand how quickly this stuff can accumulate. We filled a midsize u-haul up with just the items from a single bedroom apartment. Paula and I just thought…holy cow…what are we going to have heading to Texas for our move south!

The move took about 5 hours for loading and unloading, but her new place is cute (even has a fireplace); Paula and I wish her and her boyfriend all the best…this is their first time both are living with a BF/GF partner, so we’ll see if they can work through the ups and downs that comes with living together. Just remember…when you start to think about kids…get a dog first! 🙂

Harvesting more strawberries (and pugs getting their share)
Paula was able to enjoy the backyard a bit wandering with our pugs (who do their own harvesting) picking a few more quarts worth of strawberries that go into the freezer. With the return from vacation she also started 2 more quarts of Milk Kefir (to replace the 4 quarts I drank while she was away as well as bottle another batch of Kombucha….bad Mr Mann drinking all the yummiez!)

Paula made more Kombucha and Kefir
With the return back from CA Paula was able to brew up some more Kombucha as well as quarts of Kefir (I love this stuff in my morning protein drinks). 🙂

Paula’s early B-day gift is on its way…
Well, this is the week Paula will get a gift she’s wanted for the last 20 years being together…a good SLR camera, but being 2017 this will be a “d”slr camera. After talking with a number of camera aficionados at work I decided to get her a Nikon 5300 with a 18mm-140mm lens. This will be the camera that Paula will use for taking her first videos for the Youtube channel as well as the pictures for around our yard (that will be posted to this blog). Since high school Paula has loved photography, but we never had call to really spend money on a good camera (something like this kind of camera setup). Now that we’ll have it I can’t wait for her to be able to get some good photos of our wildlife and the urban homestead. This will be great to finally get the “P” posting videos and pictures at the PnB Homestead Youtube channel and blog. 🙂
